Does it really mean “dry clean only”

I have worked at the laundromat for 12 years – and in most cases, “dry clean only” items can be safely laundered. The one item we did have to refuse was a genuine Persian Rug, that a teenager needed to wash before Mom and Dad got back from their weekend get-a-way. Not a good idea to launder a genuine Persian Rug. Most comforters, however, launder extremely well. Often, when they say “dry clean only”, we use cold water wash, delicate cycle, delicate soap, and tumble dry low, often taking it out while it is barely damp and finish drying it overnight. The cording around the edge of some comforters is an item thatn shrinks up when it is over dried in a dryer.
